Hey Science Friends,
Lots has been going on and planning for the end of the year has me going buggy! It is hard to believe that this year is ending because it is going by so fast. I promised my class I would make them something a little buggy for next week. Since we completed our research writing on frogs the kids have actually begged me to start another writing project. And considering our last research project really inspired us as writer's I decided to go for it. And after a lot of discussion we all wanted to focus this writing on some interesting insects. I have to admit it but I think the kids got me kind of excited.
My class this year was very excited when we were putting our work on display. I think after two weeks of work we all might have been a little excited to see just about anything in a final stage. But I was surprised to realize that the kids thought how something was displayed was important. So, it kind of inspired me to create the craftivity you see above. I just wanted something that would hold two of our best pieces of work. I am kind of excited to show the kids.
As I was preparing for the week ahead, I was going through some of my books and I was starting to realize just how much fun the next few weeks will be with all the great books I have collected over the years. And I was inspired to order a few more to make some perfect fiction and non fiction pairs. What about all of those Eric Carle books paired with these?
Each of these would be a perfect match for all of those Eric Carle titles!
So what are going to do exactly?
We are going to read like crazy and get on the internet and learn some facts. We are going to ask questions and seek answers to our questions. We are going to use thinking maps as a way to plan for our writing. We are going to take a real close look at some plastic insects and determine if it is in fact a real insect or not. We are going outside for some field investigations and observe insects in the natural world. We are going to record those observations in pictures, writing and words in our science notebooks. We are going to communicate like Scientists and share our observations and recordings with each other. We are going to plan and conduct simple investigations. We are going to create some models of insects. And we are going to have so much fun doing it! I can't wait.
Have fun investigating friends...
